Design Resolution #3

For my last design resolution, I want to create a more eco-friendly home.  One way to do that is to use repurposed elements throughout instead of just buying a slew of new things.  I'm a sucker for objects that have a history and for pieces that are reinvented into something new.  Buying from local artists and crafters or even tackling a DIY project is a smart alternative.  Using repurposed items add character to your home and are a great way to be both eco-friendly and stylish.

A great way to re-use old fabrics and revamp your space is to recover your pillows.  This is a clever use for a used pinstripe suit.  This smart crafter on Etsy, EmmaDear, also used salvaged shirting buttons and a saved label to habndcraft this handsome pillow.

Below:  Check out this great "before & after"! A custom slipcover is a creative way to "upcycle" and breathe new life into your existing furniture. Think about how you can reuse your pieces to create a new look before tossing them out!! The beautiful slipcovers shown below were designed by the lovely Beth at Nest Interior Design. See more of her project here.

Finally, another great way to pique interest in your home is resurrecting uncommon goods or furnishings and giving them new purpose in your space.  Who says that old tools and machine parts can't be works of art or unique accessories?  These found objects from the Jennifer Price Studio are one-of-a-kind and are great conversation starters...

  1. I am a firm believer in using what you have, shop your own house prior to looking elsewhere...and that is a great looking slipcover!
