I am so very pleased to introduce you to the lovely Samantha Reitmayer, of the style/SWOON blog and Dallas-based SWOON, the studio, as the first muse of our series of Design Inspirations Q&A. Sam's eye for style and design talent is evident in her daily blogs as she shares her unique finds. Her blog is one of my personal favorites, so I just had to find out what inspired the mind behind one of my favorite reads... See what she had to share:
Q. What is your favorite design blog?
A. ooooh so many... DesignSponge, Desire to Inspire, Mint, The Bedlam of Beefy, Oh Joy, Apartment Therapy (if we're talking interior inspired blogs)
Q. What is your favorite interior designer?
A. Oh boy, that's tough... there are local people adore -- the relaxed and luxurious grace of any space designed by Julio Quinones and then the daring and brave distinct glamour of James McInroe and a similar comparison on a national level...I love the classic, clean, refined beauty of Barbara Barry but lust after the risk taking, graphic, fearless Kelly Wearstler. And so many more. I could go on for days.
Q. What is your favorite fashion designer?
A. I'm really not a huge fashion person. I love it but I'm not glued to the runways. Honestly I keep gravitating lately to Alice and Olivia. I love how wearable their clothes are. They feel young and fun, kind of bohemian but I can dress them up or change them each time I wear them..
Q. What current design trend do you love right now?
A. Wallpaper. I haven't gotten it out of my system yet but I love it's repetitive and graphic nature.
Q. Where do you look for inspiration?
A. Everywhere I go but I find more often than not I'll see a cool logo or graphic and usually what's behind doesn't disappoint me. I often find that people who can appreciate good graphic design seem to have a fairly good grasp on overall design.
Q. What music inspires you?
A. All of it. I'm not a music guru but I love music and I love to have it on at work, at home, in the car.
Q. What was your favorite splurge for your home?
A. My huge antique armoire from Lots of furniture. I call it my woman warrior armoire. It is the most expensive thing I own but that's not saying much because I'm a real bargain hunter.
Q. What was your best frugal find?
A. Almost everything I purchase is a deal but I'm going to say my antique armoire... I wouldn't call it frugal but it was a steal.
Q. Do you have a design pet peeve?
A. YES. Don't decorate out of guilt. If your mother gives you something you hate you DON'T have to put it out in your home. Everything should be something you love and intentional.
Q. What is your color of choice right now?
A. White. Always white.
Q. Where is your favorite place to read a good book or catch up on your blog reads?
A. My chaise lounge in the living room by the window or on vacation.
Q. What is your favorite home furnishings shop?
A. Oh that's impossible. What am I looking for? What city? In Dallas -- Antiques, White Elephant. Mod, the Nest or Stella Dallas. Things I drool over but can rarely own, Grange Hall. Lately I'm loving Nicholson Hardie...it's unexpectedly filled with great accessories, candles, pots. All kinds of stuff you wouldn't believe.
Q. Describe your personal style.
A. Very textural, muted colors, odd found objects. Vintage glam meets farmhouse rustic meets the beautiful side of macabre.
Thanks for sharing with us, Samantha!!
